Engineering notes

Math

  • Removed = stock − part (cm³).
  • Cut time = removed ÷ MRR × finishing factor.
  • Per-part time = cut + setup ÷ qty.

Caveats

  • Real CAM adds 10–30% for retracts, rapids, air-cutting.
  • Sub-mm features inflate time well past MRR estimate.
  • Production HSM machines on Al 6061 do 100+ cm³/min.
